JOB CAPTAIN 

Description:

This role interacts with the project team and requires daily problem solving, time management, multi-tasking and a great attitude under pressure.  Frequently works on multiple projects at a time. Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail are required.  Provides coordination and quality-control oversight of document production and oversees the work of the drafters. Requires thorough knowledge of architectural detailing, building materials, California building codes, and PDA office standards and details.  Frequently involves coordination with project consultants.  

Reports To: Project Manager / Project Architect / Supervisor 


Roles & Responsibilities: 

Leadership

  • Mentor and manage team members in areas such as time management and developing client relationships
  • Creates and fosters strong teamwork & project team culture, and is a resource for team
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and /or facilities concurrently
  • Ensure PDA CAD standards and quality control procedures are implemented

Client Relationship

  • Support Project Manager, Project Architect / Supervisor, and Project Designer throughout the project

Project Delivery

  • Attend job site meetings at preconstruction and during construction
  • Responsible for oversight of drafters
  • Responsible for development and implementation of quality documents that ensure the design and construction of a project meets or exceeds the customer's expectations
  • Provide quality control and quality assurance on production and design documents
  • Coordinates work with consultants
  • Ensures that agency having jurisdiction (OSHPD, City, etc.), code requirements and best practice procedures are met
  • Assist Project Architect / Supervisor in reviewing and responding to Proposed Change orders (PCO)
  • Prepare Amended Construction Documents as directed by Project Architect / Supervisor
  • Attend project Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) meetings if the Project Architect /Supervisor is unavailable
  • Under supervision, review and respond to Request for Information (RFI) and maintain RFI log
  • Under supervision, review and process submittals/shop drawings and maintain logs
  • Prepare Architectural Supplemental Information (ASI) and Construction Change Directives (CCD) as directed by the Project Architect / Supervisor

  • Support and develops drafters by providing opportunities for growth

Financial

  • Support project leadership by working efficiently and ensuring the drafters are working efficiently and are following PDA standards
  • Identify potential production or scheduling problems early and seek resolution or escalate the problem to the Project Architect’s / Supervisor’s attention promptly

Build for the Future

  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement and process redesign
  • Communicate back to team on feedback received from consultants and contractors


Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Actively seeking to obtain Architectural license in the state of California
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture
  • 5+ years of experience (preferably partially in healthcare)
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using REVIT
  • Strong knowledge and experience using AutoCad software and BIM processes
  • Experience working with the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) and/or Building & Planning Departments
  • Thorough knowledge of architectural drafting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel
  • Strong professionalism and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of detailing, building materials, codes and construction
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
