Montclair Hospital Emergency Department Remodel

This project includes the 10,800 square foot remodel of the existing 7 bed Emergency Department (ED) at Montclair Hospital Medical Center. As part of the expansion, the new ED will accommodate 12 treatment beds (2 cardiac, 9 standard, and one observation room), a new Nuclear Medicine Unit, and the renovation of the existing X-ray room. To meet our Client's goals of maintaining a fully functioning ED throughout construction, PDA implemented a multi-phase strategy to maintain consistent operation.

By building-out the public spaces first, PDA was able to reroute circulation to existing intake areas, then and then focus on private areas utilized by patients and staff. A new entrance and free standing outdoor canopy with landscaping and public space was designed to give the ED a visible identity while maintaining aesthetic cohesiveness with the rest of the hospital.

The interior areas occupied by staff and patients will occur in Phase II-III. The new L-shape layout designed around a centralized nurse station will allows for easy access from the public area, visibility from the nurse station, and a secondary exit into the hospital. The open floor plan gives the impression of a roomier environment. Additional phase will include general storage being displaced as part of the ER remodel.
